Wigtown Book Festival

This popular annual event starts in late September and, this year - 2011, the festival takes place between 23 September and 2 October.

Wigtown Book Festival has been held since 1999 and seems to get bigger and better each year. It is now one of the major events in the South of Scotland.

Wigtown itself is only about 40 minutes by car from Portpatrick so a stay in Portpatrick can easily be combined with visits to Wigtown.

"Big names" attending the festival last year included Ian Rankin, Iain (M) Banks, John Byrne, Phyllida Law, Margo MacDonald, Martin Bell, Allan Massie, Sally Magnusson, Barbara Dickson and many others.
