Logan Fish Pond at Port Logan near the Mull of Galloway
A visit to Logan Fish Pond is a fascinating way to spend an hour or two of your holiday in South West Scotland and can easily be combined with a visit to Logan Botanic Gardens and a stroll round the delightful village and beach at Port Logan where 2000 Acres of Sky was filmed. The Port Logan Inn was featured in the series and is a great place for lunch or a drink at one of their outside tables, soaking up the sounds of waves rippling along the sandy shore, watching the many seabirds or the boats coming and going.
Logan Fish Pond is often overlooked by visitors who tend to focus on the more well known attractions in the area - Logan Botanic Gardens and the Mull of Galloway but the Fish Pond is a hidden gem and should not be missed.
Logan Fish Pond A few of the Fish
Logan Fish Pond was created in 1788 and was a "larder" for storing live sea fish for Logan House so Logan Fish Pond is well over 200 years old!
As well as the actual pond, attractions include viewing tanks, a cave aquarium and a gift shop.
Ruth, who owns the business, and her staff clearly enjoy their work and spend time with visitors explaining the various species of fish and other sea creatures including hermit crabs, coral lobsters etc and pointing out very small and well camouflaged creatures which you might otherwise miss.
You also are supplied with a small amount of food to feed the fish.
The internal walls of the pond are covered in brightly covered wild flowers, especially in spring.
There is also a resonably priced gift shop with many of the items having been made by Ruth herself.
Logan Fish Pond is open 7 days a week , 10am - 5 pm 1st.May - 30 September and Tueday to Sunday February-April and October.
Logan Fish Pond is a short stroll away from the Port Logan Inn which was featured in 2000 Acres of Sky. There are tables outside the inn, right on the side of the sandy beach and this is an ideal place to sit with a glass of real ale (for which they are renowned) listening to the waves and seabirds and watching the boats coming and going.
